Mitochondria and Cancer Connections

Acquisition of the fluorescently labeled CBTN cell line DMG 7316-195++GL GFP, will allow model development for establishment of a zebrafish xenograft, where the tumor can be monitored for its location, migration, size, and proliferation. While osteosarcoma is the focus of this project, the glioma cell line will provide model development and validation opportunities for localization of the xenograft in the zebrafish brain, enabling further study with an ONC201-responsive DIPG cell line from Java Nazarian’s lab. ONC201 targets clpP (Caseinolytic Mitochondrial Matrix Peptidase Proteolytic Subunit), which is an interesting marker in both project-facing pediatric diseases, cancer and mitochondrial disease.

Other specimens acquired thus far include 143B osteosarcoma cells (ATCC #CRL-8303), with and without mitochondria, and hFOB 1.19 osteoblasts (ATCC #CRL-11372).
