Dr Marion Mateos’ current clinical specialisation and research focuses on neuro-oncology, personalised medicine and therapeutics, and individual side-effect profiling. Prior to joining the Kids Cancer Centre, Dr Mateos completed a 2-year Neuro-Oncology Fellowship in the UK, combining clinical and research work (2017-2019). After securing a Cancer Institute NSW Early Career Fellowship, Dr Mateos returned to Australia to undertake clinical practice and translational research across the Kids Cancer Centre and Children’s Cancer Institute.

Dr Mateos has an extensive research portfolio including completion of a PhD in 2017 focused on developing more accurate clinical and germline genomic predictors of treatment-related toxicities in children with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL). Dr Mateos helped create the first prospective Australasian study to capture toxicities in children treated for ALL, with linked bio-banking, health economic and health-related quality of life analysis and is now leading a global study through the Ponti de Legno Toxicity Working Group on venous thromboembolism (VTE) in ALL.
